Hi! just a question about the pots.... IMHO is better a log taper for gain and volume, or not?

Completed builds: Ragemaster with AC126 and capacitor switch
LPB-1 with lower values, but not a screaming bird.
SHO with some changes on cap values.
Fuzz Face with 2n2222a and 2n3440, and bias control
Some other atempts, but any of them really pleased me.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask it or if somebody ever asked it here.
But anyone know how to do that middle control from the BB preamp MB?
want to do one, but really wanted the middle control for extra setups.

In my opinion they do really great work on PCB design and getting the wire layout to flow neat. The goop just throws all that out the window. There's just no pride these days!

Paco, what does the PCB screw to in the case? I never looked into the Xotic stuff too much.

Timothy, It holds the second PCB with pots and one resistor attached to it

I have this pedal on all the time to give me that pushed amp feel and it works brilliantly that way IMHO into tube amp. 8)

Does anybody know what changes the Andy Timmons BB pre has? I've read that it has slightly more compression, less gain. :hmmm:
I read that as they have added extra diodes in series possibly? I'm a bit of a noob here  (more of a paint by numbers kind-a-guy) but would sure like to hear from the more experienced members how to achieve this with this pedal. Any ideas please???

I have changed the drive pot to a 500k already just in case anyone suggests that.
Cheers

Sorry forgot to add that the AT BB pre version sounds more transparent and warmer than the BB's now sold.
Also the BB pre that I made is from Guitar heroes layout, oh and I have made the Glitteratti (MadBeans layout of this pedal) both sound great.

Looking forward to you replies.

TIA

+1

First of all, thanks for the layout, I wouldn't be able to do that myself.

But has anyone built it? Just finished building it and all I get is hum. I've quadruple-checked everything and eveything's in order. But I know almost nothing about electronics so I don't know how to troubleshoot.

[Edit ] Wrong forum probably but I felt it was unnesessary to post a new thread. I mean, there's no point in troubleshooting if the circuit doesn't work.

Just bumping this thread as I'm interested in building a BB Bass Preamp using one of Madbean's Glitterrattii boards. Does anyone know the difference with the guitar and bass versions?

Thanks!

Hey Hewie just want to say thanks for the layout, after finding 3 mistakes i made, the thing sounds great.
I used an opa2134 and a ne5532 and like them. I didnt have any 4.7n caps so i had to use 2 old big ass mylar?/mica? 4700pf caps instead.(The big brown ones)
Now the problem is fitting it in a box...cause of the big caps
Cheers hewie

They are both linear pots (B) = linear (A) = log or as I remember it A = audio which is log so B is linear 8)
