For high feedback amplifiers like this one, the type of transistor used will probably make no difference at all. And most bipolars tend to behave similarly (beside power handling, which is not a problem here beside the power pair, which should be heat-sinked anyway). Just the jfet may make a difference in some designs, and here probably no difference would be noticable because of the biasing properties of the input differential pair.
Bottom line, use whatever transistors you can get if they have similar power and voltage handling.

arrrrrrrg sound awesome
haha it sound like, something out from this world
Preparing 4 meeting with aliens?
Why you give so much of reverb and so crazy riff, record something easier to listen, then we will hear how usefull sound it is
Some easy chords without so much reverb... now i can't even identify what preamp copy that is

You're right... Too much crap, reverb etc! My studio monitors are sh!t.. listened to it with head phones and sounded totally fizzed and reverbed out.. Need some low pass also? I will re-record dry and try some chords etc...armkon wrote:haha it sound like, something out from this world

You or anybody else have any demo clips? I haven't heard any except for lugburz2000 on page 5 of this entire thread and he is using cab impulses which is cool by me... maybe I missed it and somebody else posted demos but I don't know?

Hi
I've seen a couple of videos from "youtube" testing an Amt P1 pedal
versus a Peavey 5150. There are not many tests comparing amt pedals
and real valve amps so here go the links

Yeah, I have seen those... they are great!! The 5150 sounds dead on the money! It's really a comparison of the real preamp vs. the AMT pedal/preamp since they are running through the fx return on the 5150 using the poweramp.lugburz2000 wrote:Hi

I mainly want to hear what people here have built vs the real pedal like the demo you did. Even just the pedals alone made by people here would be fine... I realize most people don't have an actual AMT pedal to compare to etc..

Here's a demo from Ola Englund using the P1, Maxon OD pedal into a Crate PowerBlock and a 1x12 speaker box with mic...

Ola Englund .. this guy is amazing. he has a lot of videos testing
gear and always getting a brutal sound.
He could appear playing with a herringbone and still make a great
metal sound.

Ok, here's my not so amazing sound - This is my E1 like preamp with my cabsim completely dry "guitar/pedal/record" I didn't even use a tube screamer infront of it...

Sounds good!
I think the second riff is more suitable for testing gear.

The impulse sounds much better.
