Has anyone seen and/or built this? I have built a few of them and it's a really useful circuit IMO.

Never heard of it but I redrew the schematic for here... should be good, I would not mind making one of these!

Awesome! Yeah, it's really worth a build for anyone who likes octave circuits. Cuts through in a mix really well.

Is Q2 a 5088, or will any small signal PNP BJT work?

According to the schematic I have from Tim, it's a 2N3906. That's what I have in my two builds.

The info below was also included on the original schematic.

For best octave effect:
R8, R11, R14 and R15 - Match to indicated value.
D4 & D5 - Match Vd for each other.
Tune R30 for null effect.
