Profi 402 Super Over Drive

A friend of mine got this through ebay and snapped a few shots. He's somewhat a pedal freak and should be considered one of the collector gods :) (http://my.effectsdatabase.com/user/linden_tku)

Apparently built in Leningrad/St. Petersburg around 1992. Or at least that's the educated guess. This would be based on the use of taiwan caps and the guess that the codes on the chips are date codes. eBay seller, of course, offered a date of "late 80's". Tone controls sound like they are variable gyrators, but i have very little definitive to say about the circuit. The diode setup seems quite interesting.

Any insight would be welcome.

This pedal is not worth it to collect, on the name chips, and not the date. You can replace with 2 chips 4558, but you have to do another wiring. At us such costs 16 $, sounds sand, it is similar to the Boss. Good luck !!!

What? In your "expert opinion" the low production number russian pedals that are rare enough to be missing from the fxdb are not worth it to collect?
I personally see this as a curiosity and definitely a rare one. This is the only Profi 402 pedal i've ever seen in my decade long excursion in the effects realm.

If you have one and want to sell it to me for $16, i'd be happy to take it.

On a side note - Similar to Boss? Which one?

I don't know how much your bud has paid for it, but we occasionally see them @ flea markets selling, u dunno, for 20-25$ or so.
They are really not worth the 100-150$ that some ebay/reverb gopniks are asking for em.
Also i've seen some sort of schematic on one of our forums nearly a decade ago, i'll post a link if i'll find it.

It wasn't expensive. I believe it was around 45€ including shipping and customs. There are tons of pedals from the eastern europe in existance. Probably not that rare or pricey over there, but i personally find those rather interesting. Mostly because those are not the same basic stuff i've grown accustomed to and somewhat differrent take on the whole industry as opposed to taiwan and US stuff. In other words, there are possibly hundreds of designs that have not been on my radar, and part of that mass is definitely interesting. At least for me and my fellow collectors around here. This one, mainly for its rather unique aesthetics.

If you find the schematic, please do post it up!

Personally i do wish people would post up more of these obscure(ish) russian/eastern block stuff up - as i do believe there are forum folk who have access to that stuff.

(Not being able to edit posts is a feature here. It prevents most of us from releasing horrible smelling brain farts, as once that kind of post is posted - it'll stay up for a long time.)

Hmmm. Apparently those K157YA2 Russian chips are dual op amps.
