geofex.com posted a project on this last summer:
8/25/06 Updated - the Tychobrahe Parapedal schematic and layout. The board bolts into a Crybaby shell and clones the Parapedal. Fixed a capacitor bug and added a new negative ground version.

I heard a clip of the Chicago Iron remake of the Parapedal. It sounded interesting, but more of a special effect than a normal wah.

there are some sound clips here of a reissue made by Chicago Iron (they've released reissues of the Tycobrahe pedals - Parapedal, Octavia + Pedal Flanger)

They'll give you some idea of the sounds it can make....

Thanks dajm!
glad to help !

hey everyone, just joined, recognise a few names. Here's a few pretty close up pics and a few part names of my original for anyone wanting to build this. I'm now in a better position to clarify most part values if anyone is interested.

I'm looking at putting together one of these, but I'm curious whether or not the GGG modifiable Wah PCB could work. I'm a total newbie at this, and really don't want to have to make my own PCB. Anyone know?

The Parapedal is a totally different kind of circuit than the usual wah. You would need a board designed just for it.

Right, I have that schem/layout, but I was just curious of the best method to use to get my PCB. Looks like I'll have to make one myself? Or can I order one online from the layout?

Yo

I built a clone of the Parapedal. I was lucky enough to find a 100k dual pot with a long shaft. I was able to a/b it with the Chicago iron version and I'd say they sounded very close. Its almost too over the top for regular use. There's this huge low end "thunk" when it gets into the bass range. If you like having a some fun pedals around for recording I recommend it.
If you plan on making a clone don't buy one of the replacement pots from Chicago Iron. They're really nice guys but they'll just send you a regular panel mount alpha dual pot with no pinion, gear, or mounting hardware and they'll charge you $15...
Iommi used the Parapedal from around Sabbath Bloody Sabbath on I've heard. For his more iconic wah tones he used a Colorsound.

No doubt true — not that I could fully understand the schematic in any case. But what I HEAR in the audio demos is simply a sweepable bandpass filter with a much lower cutoff point than a conventional wah — somewhere around 100 Hz, right?

So would it not be possible to get an identical effect, if not an identical circuit, using a standard wah layout and tweaking the filter ranges? That's assuming you WANTED this sound, which isn't necessarily a given.

Yo

I haven't heard any regular wah circuit come close to the Parapedal circuit. I could be wrong in describing it but it seems to ( to my ears ) have a narrow q that is also very extreme. The resonance is crazy and it seems to do the huge synthy woosh sound at the heel position. I don't think sonically it can be approximated with the garden variety inductor equipped wah circuit.
I'd recommend building it if you like to have a lot of unique circuits around. The problem generally is finding a dual pot. I need to bust out the breadboard so I could test out a standard 100k pot controlling a dual vactrol that is in turn controlling dual voltage dividers instead of the usual dual pot setup.
