Memory Boy - NEW! - ETA Early August

What is it that makes a performance legend? Experience and design integrity make a legend. Since the early 1970's, Electro-Harmonix has been designing analog delays featured on some of the greatest recordings and used by legendary musicians throughout the world. From the original Memory Man to the Deluxe Memory Man, still available today, our delays are desired instruments for the organic tones that deliver textures that define quality.

The new Memory Boy carries the performance heritage for warm analog delays and modulations that made its ancestors the go to legends that remain today. With two years in design using new and refined, analog IC's the focus was making the legend affordable to every musician while maintaining the character and artistic sounds that let you stand apart.

The new Memory Boy straps on the cape and flies with heritage into the search for amazing sound at a price that mere mortals can afford.

* All analog delay with Feedback
* Up to 550 ms delay time
* Selectable Chorus or Vibrato modulations rates
* Choose between triangle or square modulation waveforms
* Expression pedal control of delay time or modulation rate (expression pedal extends the range of modulation rate)
* True Bypass

I strongly suspect that EHX has, years back, launched MN3005 production somewhere. Therefore I wouldn't be surprised to se MN3005's in Memory Boy and in Memory Toy.

Why not? Boss DM-2 uses MN3005 and works on 9V?

I just got mine. Man, did they stick a bunch of components into a tiny box! Whew!

I took a quick peek inside-- it's four BL3208s. I couldn't see much under the daughter board, though.

There are also a bunch of little, little trimpots. I was curious, so I twisted one a bit, and then it stopped working. I think at least a couple of them are bias trims for the 3208s.

No point in posting pics, really to RE this would be a fool's errand. They're easily worth the $100, though.

There's always a point in posting pics ! Even if it's just to prove that it's not worth tracing ...
People might be interested in
  • knowing how well it's built,
  • finding out how they did cram so much in such a small box (then wondering about the Memory Toy),
  • finding a set-up procedure for those trimpots,
  • seeing if classic mods are applicable to this one
  • and countless other things ...
I only give negative feedback.

I just got this bad boy, and I was gonna post gut pics in a new thread, but I found this one.

Here's some pics:

Here's links to the full scale (3648px × 2736px)pics:

This thing is a fantastic sounding delay! It goes from simple, to crazy, and control over the modulation rate is really nice... that's one thing I feel they should have added to the SMMH.

Nice work, Mr. Matthews, and the price is pretty amazing, too.

Thanks!

Yeah, they have the Deluxe version rumored for after the new year. Here's the thread at EHX.com

http://www.ehx.com/forums/viewthread/2074/

The price was the big selling point for me. You can't find any other pedal on the market with that many features for that price.

The Deluxe version is also supposed to be around $180 street.

Definitely try it if you see one!!!

Thanks!!! I didn't even notice the IC wasn't sitting properly for some reason. :slap:

I wondered the same thing about the sockets.

The Memory Toy doesn't have sockets.

I've been doing some research on possible mods that you can do to a Memory Boy.

1) I think I might be able to swap out the BL chip for a V3205. What are the tonal differences between an MN3005, MN3025, and V3205?

2) Can the JRC4558s be swapped out for TL072s on the Memory Boy?

Is there a major tonal difference between the V3205 and MN3005?
