I think the gate was developed as a separate project. Do a search for "zvex gate" and see what you get.

Yes, it works. I have built two of them.

I don't have a B.O.M. to reverse-engineer the noise gate, but I have something else that could be of interest. The Ibanez SM7 Smash Box (another dirt box in the "high gain" neighborhood) has an integrated noise gate, just like the B.O.M. I've traced out the SM7 gate and could give it to y'all if you wanted to try it with your B.O.M. build.

FWIW, I'm using this noise gate in an upcoming project, so I haven't built it from scratch yet. However, it works just fine in my commercially-produced SM7 Smash Box, so it would probably work in the B.O.M. as well. There's very little adjustability in the gate, but that hasn't been a problem because it seems to work well with the output levels from the SM7.

If you're interested, please let me know and I'll get a schem for the SM7 gate only drawn up and posted tonight.

OK, even if you're not interested ( :) ), I adapted the design to a stand-alone design that could be dropped into your B.O.M. build or just live as a separate pedal (a 1-switch noise gate w/zero knobs.)

For your B.O.M. build, if you want to drop the input buffer on this gate, you could use the union after the IC1a output as your input and change IC1b to be a single op amp.

This gate works well in my SM7, but I've not built this stand-alone version, making this schematic unverified at this time. I also didn't include the power input/filtering/reverse-polarity protection bits, so if y'all really need that stuff drawn out, please let me know.

Good luck!

No sweat. You're welcome. :) If nobody points out any issues with the schem, I should be able to whip up a PCB as well.

And for those of you questioning the polarity of D2/D3 in the schem (hey, I was this morning)...it is accurate in the presently-displayed orientation. The D2/D3 diode on the schem maps to D10/D11, respectively, in the SM7, which I opened up this morning to confirm polarity of D10/D11; both are correctly oriented on the schem as compared to the PCB.

Sorry, I didn't report about the layout.
I made it as I had to build one as someone asked me to...
I built it, and it fired up just right. So yeah it is VERIFIED!
(keep the trimmer quite closed, else you got too much gain and noise...)

i did one of this doing my own layout, it´s verified and working. i used 2n7000, less noise and other distorsion grain.
Fisrt i use a adhesive paper tp make the front face, after i did a etching, upload photos and complet`proyect.
cheers.

I finished this one a few days ago - sounds good! I used Dimebugg's layout (thanks!) and for the most part everything is OK, except for:
  • * The Mid control as shown seems to be wired backwards (to my ears) - this is easily fixed by switching the jumpers to each of the lugs on the Mid pot.
  • * Using a 5K reverse-log pot for the gain doesn't seem to give a workable range - all the gain is bunched up right at the very end of the pot. If you use a linear 5K pot instead it's much more usable.
I redrew the layout (hope you don't mind dimebugg!) so that the PCB was a little bit clearer - while I was there I rearranged the power polarity protection diode to be in parallel rather than series, to avoid the voltage drop across it.

Here 'tis:
