Nice pictures
Thought this sounded pretty nice actually, justifying the amount of shit in there!

Allot of diodes , I'd like to see the top outside , curious what controls & switches there are
and Ohhh secret I.C.'s ................

From looking at the solder side, I'd say the 16pin IC in the middle is a CD4049UB. pins 13 and 16 are free...
Another guess: It's for the saturation mode.

no, it's part of the switching. no CD4049UB

Big ups Saruman!
Every time you post it is juicy.
Incredible amount going on for an od.

15 transistors
5 integrated circuits (counting the double)
and 6 diode sets (not counting the singles - i am guessing some assymmetrical pairs also)
that is really intricate for what it does.

If it was lovepedal, I would say maybe 5 electra distortions in series with 2 or 3 landgraff tubescreamers with "clipping options"

And here it is - the LP Cooling system for nuclear fission plants.

Original or not, this one sounds killer in the demos.
Complexity -wise, it does rival mr Tripp's designs IMO.
Pretty expensive too!

He's went to a lot of trouble even grinding of the value of the box caps .

whoa
Is that a three layer board - looks like yet another tubescreamer rat combo with a speaker simulator and baxandall three band eq
would be interesting to see the filter values and interesting input buffer stage

"why use a 12A*7 tube when a dozen op amps will do the job just as well" quote for the day :secret:

Thanks to Saruman for the values :thumbsup - here is the really interesting bit  - the post clipping filter response after the clipping stage and up to the master volume controls.
Halo post clipping filter response curves.gif
The graph shows the response as the signal passes through each successive filter / gain stage.
The red curve shows the input (normalized for a flat response)
The next curve (green) shows the response after the broad mid notch and gain recovery stage.
The blue curve shows the response after the first op amp low pass filter stage.
The purple curve shows the response after the second op amp low pass filter stage.
The yellow curve shows the response after the third emitter follower low pass filter stage.
AND the pink curve shows the response after the final broad notch filter and output buffer op amp stage.
cheers
bajaman

True sound of HALO very close. But the feeling when you play nice.
I tried my version. It sounds almost exactly like the original Halo.

Did anybody ever try to make a pcb for the original circuit or for Sarumans stripped down version?
Sarumans version should be even small enough for veroboard in a 1590bb
